-
Call or text (650) 275-2923, email info@RefreshPhysicalTherapy.com, or contact us online. We’ll start with a brief introductory call to answer your questions, learn more about your needs, and determine whether PT or Movement & Strength Coaching is the right fit. We can then schedule your first session.
-
Movement & Strength Coaching: No referral is required.
Physical Therapy: No referral is required to get started. California allows you to see a licensed physical therapist through direct access for up to 45 days or 12 visits, whichever comes first. If you need to continue PT beyond that point, a referral from your healthcare provider is required. Insurance plans may also have their own referral requirements for out-of-network reimbursement.
If your therapist has concerns about your progress or feels you would benefit from further medical evaluation, they will discuss this with you and can coordinate with your healthcare provider as appropriate.
-
No. Refresh PT is a private-pay practice, and we do not bill insurance for either physical therapy or Movement & Strength Coaching.
For physical therapy, we can provide a detailed receipt that you may submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement, depending on your plan. We can also provide documentation for eligible HSA/FSA expenses.
Movement & Strength Coaching is a separate, private-pay service and is not physical therapy or an insurance-billed service. Coaching fees are not submitted to insurance.
-
Before your first session, you’ll receive intake forms through our secure patient portal, SimplePractice. Come prepared to discuss your goals, concerns, and any questions you have. For PT, it’s also helpful to wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the area being evaluated.
-
Physical Therapy: Your initial visit includes a conversation about what brings you to PT, a comprehensive physical examination, and development of an individualized plan. Depending on your needs, this may include evaluating range of motion, strength, flexibility, joint mobility, and movement patterns. We’ll explain our findings, answer your questions, and get you started with an appropriate home exercise program. You’ll leave with a clear understanding of your condition and the plan moving forward.
Movement & Strength Coaching: Your first session includes a review of your health and exercise history, discussion of your goals, and a comprehensive movement and functional screen. We’ll identify areas to work on and begin building an individualized exercise and movement plan based on your current abilities, goals, and preferences.
-
All sessions are 60 minutes, one-on-one with the same Doctor of Physical Therapy. Whether you’re receiving physical therapy or Movement & Strength Coaching, you’ll have the full session dedicated to your individual goals and needs.
-
Physical Therapy: The number of sessions varies depending on your condition, goals, and progress. Many orthopedic PT episodes of care involve approximately 5–8 visits, often scheduled about once per week, but some people need fewer visits and others need more. After your initial evaluation, you and your therapist will discuss a plan that includes the anticipated frequency and duration of care.
Movement & Strength Coaching: Coaching is designed to be ongoing and individualized. The frequency and duration will depend on your goals, exercise needs, and how much support you want as you build a sustainable routine.
-
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. For PT, choose clothing that also allows easy access to the area being evaluated or treated. Athletic or workout clothing is generally ideal for both PT and Movement & Strength Coaching.
